I know this has been discussed on here before but i want to know what are some things to look for that can. Zero pitch may work for some people but if i shot a gun with zero pitch i would get serious face slap plus a mean bruise on my shoulder pocket where the toe of the recoil pad would dig in A common cause of cheek slap is the wrong pitch, the angle of the butt
It is correct when the whole pad makes simultaneous contact with the shoulder as th gun is mounted using a normal shooting posture.
My cheek is constantly bruised I use them on my trap guns with great success, for relief of cheek slap/bruising I do believe that the shape and thickness of a wood comb also can contribute to face slap, depending on your cheek pressure The slightly thicker combs on my sporting guns do not affect me as much, and feel more comfortable.

When i started being one with the gun and having a solid connection between the upper left part of the stock and my cheek (and consequentially better and more hits), i started getting a bruised cheek after shooting heavier loads (i prefer 7/8. It won’t be the surgery, it will be out of practice mounts that subject you to recoil slap that might bruise your skin Don’t forget your shoulder muscles will atrophy, so lifting the gun might cause muscular pain, and you could have altered range of motion A pad won’t fix that, weight exercise and physical therapy will.
