When my rear main was leaking, there was oil pooling on the inside of the bell housing and you could see it (with uv dye) pooling on the boss of the retainer plate between the transmission and the back of the engine. Also, if you don’t replace the groove that the old seal clung to, the seal will leak. I’m this video i show you how to check to see if you have a rear main seal leak or if it’s just your oil pan gasket.
Curious on how this went for you If you fail to do this, the seal might leak I am about to call my dealer for the 3rd rear main oil seal leak in the last 3 oil changes
Not sure if it is a mechanic thing or there is something else wrong that they are hoping will go away long enough to be off warranty.
It could be the rear intake seal, or a valve cover gasket I believe your oil pressure sending unit is up front down low on the driver's side near the oil filter, but check just in case there is something else back there that could leak. There are additives and high mileage oils They both have additives to expand the seals
It needs time to soften/expand the seals Once you do this it has to be done on a continuing basis or the leak comes back even worse Overtime the issue will still come back from wear. Start by removing the transmission
After that, you should remove the old rear main seal
Using the special tool, install the new rear main seal
